Our Organisation 

Rights In Action Incorporated (RIA) was formed in August 2001 to provide independent advocacy for people with disabilities in Cairns, Yarrabah, Atherton and Mareeba.

RIA is funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services under the National Disability Advocacy Program, and the State Government Department of Communities, Disability Services and Seniors, and Queensland Health.

Our advocacy includes:

• independent advocacy for people with disabilities to uphold their human rights and to address instances of discrimination, abuse, neglect and exploitation
• strongly supports cases where an individual has been taken advantage of or their rights have been infringed upon because of their disability
• supports individuals who may be subject to disadvantage over and above their disability because of race and/or the isolation they often experience within society generally.

RIA is also funded to support people with National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)  appeals.  This is where people are not happy with their NDIS plan or NDIA decisions.
